With the civic election coming up in November of 2024, the City of Saskatoon is working on ways to modernize how it will be conducted, in particular with regards to voters lists. City Clerk Adam Tittemore says they have noticed a shift in voter behaviour, notably the greater use of advance polls and mail-in ballots.
Pending Council endorsement, the City will enter into an information-sharing agreement with Elections Saskatchewan to receive voter data to create a voters list.
A news release from the City says this would help to cut the cost of conducting elections.
City Administration is also working on procuring an election technology management system to help manage things like an electronic voters list, mail-in ballot application and fulfillment, a candidate portal and voting location management.
It’s expected to cost about $102,000, which would be offset by fewer poll workers, savings on printing and supplies, and saving on staff time and resources.
