Corman Park Police took to social media this past weekend to remind area residents that there is no bylaw in place in the RM of Corman Park that allows golf carts to travel on roads within the rural municipality.
This may sound contradictory in light of a recent announcement from the government in which SGI has updated a policy that will allow people to drive golf carts on certain municipal roads but only if their municipality passes a by-law, subject to certain limitations and SGI approval.
Previously, if municipalities passed a by-law allowing it, golf carts were only permitted for transportation to and from the golf course, with drivers using the most direct route. The change was spurred by a request from SUMA after a resolution was recently passed at the recent annual convention of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association who requested the change.
Corman Park Police says in light of there being no bylaw, under the Traffic Safety Act golf carts are prohibited from being operated on public roadways. They say officers are finding an increase in golf cart traffic in subdivisions such as Greenbryre and Edgemont.
They also remind residents operating a golf cart on a highway can carry a fine of $80. If someone is operating a golf cart without a valid license (under 16 years old and no license)they can be fined $150.
