This winter, there are 550 people in Saskatoon without a home, but Carla Delgado from the YWCA thinks that is only a fraction of the real number.
YWCA is holding a ‘Coldest Night of the Year’ winter walk on Saturday night to raise funds for those in our city dealing with homelessness.
Delgado says winter weather doesn’t seem too bad for people with food and shelter, but for the less fortunate, Canadian winters can be deadly.
She says walks like these are happening in hundreds of cities all over Canada.
Delgado adds that it is a peer-to-peer fundraiser, and walkers can register online at the YWCA website.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly walk. There is a 2.5 kilometre route and a 5 kilometre route.
Some suggestions to bring with, for participants in the walk, include a cell phone for emergencies, good waterproof/warm shoes and boots for walking, warm coat as well as mitts or gloves, extra snacks if you have food allergies and your own water bottle.
