For the first time this season, the Saskatoon Blades picked up a “result” when trailing after two periods. However, it was only one point instead of two as the Moose Jaw Warriors out-lasted the Bridge City Bunch 5-4 in overtime Wednesday at SaskTel Centre.
Moose Jaw defenceman Max Wanner sent most of the 2,929 fans home unhappy when he scored 45 seconds into the extra frame. The Blue and Gold battled back from a 4-2 deficit late in the second period to force O-T. It was a game where the 27-9-4 Blades deserved a better result as they out-shot the 28-14-2 Warriors 43-17, but were victimized by bad bounces, opportunistic Moose Jaw scoring and stellar goaltending from 21-year-old Warriors’ netminder Connor Ungar. Saskatoon scored first and led 2-1 before Austin Elliott allowed three goals on three consecutive shots just before the mid-point of the second period. He was relieved by Ethan Chadwick with Moose Jaw ahead 3-2, the first time in 40 games this season that Bridge City Bunch head coach Brennan Sonne opted to make an in-game goaltender change. Conner Roulette (pictured) scored twice for the Blue and Gold, Egor Sidorov notched his sixth goal on a current four-game goal-scoring streak and Trevor Wong’s third period tally forced overtime. Rookie forward Jordan Keller chipped in with two assists for the Blades who, despite losing both ends of a home-and-home series with the Warriors, didn’t drop down in the standings. Both Saskatoon and Moose Jaw have 58 points, tied for second place in the W-H-L’s East Division and tied for third in the Eastern Conference. The Bridge City Bunch have four games in hand on the Warriors. The Blue and Gold’s next action is Friday when they host the arch-rival Prince Albert Raiders. Following is the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L, the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast and Post-Game Show interviews with Sonne and Keller…..
