Just after 1 Saturday afternoon, Broadview RCMP were alerted about a man attempting to break into a home on Cowessess First Nation. Police were told he made threats and then left in a truck, which was found in a ditch. It was also reported that the man had a firearm with him, and he took off on foot.
Local RCMP along with neighbouring detachments, RCMP Police Dog Services, Critical Incident Response Team and Regina Police Service Air Services worked together and the man was arrested without incident on Cowessess First Nation. Twenty-five year old Austin Bellegard from the community of Shesheep, which is part of Zagime Anishinabek First Nation, is facing charges which include mischief under $5,000 and carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A public service announcement was posted on Cowessess First Nation’s Facebook page on Saturday saying that the area had been put on lockdown.
