The Saskatchewan government is listing its support for those dealing with addictions as National Addictions Awareness Week gets underway. Mental Health and Addictions Minister, Everett Hindley, says this year the province has invested a record $470-million in mental health and addiction services, including $67-million for prevention, detox, treatment and harm reduction initiatives.
Included in that is $2.2-million to operate Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine clinics in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert and North Battleford, where people can get specialized addiction treatment services, and they can be connected to other services for ongoing treatment. Another $1.72-million was allotted for up to 28 new detox beds and seervices in communities across the province and $2.1-million to support the first year of a three-year commitment for 150 new addictions treatment spaces across the province, not including the 474 spaces already in place.
