If the voting habits for Saskatoon Meewasin constituents follow along the same lines as the 2020 general election, there will be many voting at the advance polls which open today (Tues) and run through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. each day.
Tim Kydd with Elections Saskatchewan says in 2020 almost half of the votes in that constituency were done through the advance polls. Those who choose the advance polls will also have the opportunity to witness some new technology.
Workers have laptop computers instead of paper materials, so the worker won’t be using a ruler searching through pages of lists to find your name. The laptops won’t be used on byelection day on September 26th, but Kydd says we can expect they will be in use for the 2024 general election, along with other technical advancements.
The advance polls are at the YWCA, the Meewasin returning office on Duchess Street and the Rusty McDonald Branch Library. The byelection is needed because former leader of the Saskatchewan NDP, Ryan Meili, stepped down as leader and as the Saskatoon-Meewasin MLA.
The five candidates are:
Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan: Mark Friesen
New Democratic Party : Nathanial Teed
Saskatchewan Green Party: Jacklin Andrews
Saskatchewan Liberal Party: Jeff Walters
Saskatchewan Party: Kim Groff
