Let’s jump into a time machine and go back a half-century. Step outside and it’s 1972. I’d say Hi, I’m from the year 2022 and people will, of course, start asking questions, like who’s Prime Minister? I’d say Trudeau and they’ll just stare. Do you have flying cars? No but we have some electric ones and hybrid gas/electric along with regular gas-powered. There’s GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles plus European and Asian brands you’d recognize. How much is gas in 2022? Do me a favour and don’t ask. And it’s measured in litres, not gallons because three years from now, in 1975, we’re going metric, sort of, mostly. Don’t worry, football will still be in yards and I still say my weight in pounds and height in feet and inches. What’s on television in 2022? Good question. We have tv delivered by cable and satellite and something called the internet that gives us a few hundred channels, most of which don’t have anything worth watching. And you wouldn’t believe the TV sets. You can get 55 “, 65”, 75” and even bigger that are about an inch wide and have the most amazing pictures to see those hundreds of channels not worth watching. Here in 1972 the internet is just getting started for military purposes only but, believe me, by 2022 it has mushroomed into the world’s biggest thing and is both a blessing and a curse. Just like our “smart” phones that we carry in our pockets. They communicate without wires, they have built in computers more powerful than you’d believe and take better pictures that the best camera that comes to mind in ’72. I’ll head back to the future now. Enjoy what’s left of your more innocent world with no Internet or smart phones. The time is coming.
