The tee sheet was its usual full Monday, with pleasant weather conditions for the 60th anniversary of the Holiday Park Golf Course.
Present-day mayor Charlie Clark had the honour of hitting the ceremonial tee shot, as did then-mayor Sid Buckwold on June 27, 1962. Mayor Clark was joined by head professional Brian Gabrush, groundskeeper Marc Robert and 25-year member of the municipal course, Dianne Bethune, on the first tee.
These days, Holiday Park will put about 60,000 golfers through its 18-hole and Executive Nine courses in one season, but Holiday Park gained national notoriety back in the 1980s when people would line-up in the dark in the wee hours of the morning, back into the parking lot, to try and play the popular south Saskatoon lay-out. In those days, the number of rounds played at Holiday Park was in the 90,000 range.
Following are pictures from the anniversary ceremony and media scrum comments from Robert, Bethune and City of Saskatoon Director of Recreation and Community Development, Andrew Roberts…..
