Described an intimate gathering organized by Pinehouse Lake, a significant contingent of the province’s Indigenous elders are expected in the community this week for the Elders Gathering.
Metis Nation-Saskatchewan President Glen McCallum says it’s a good place to be with food, entertainment, stories and it’s the 10th annual.
He says the well-being of the Metis nation is very healthy and those are the things that they need to start promoting if they are going to have better communities, better Saskatchewan and a better Canada.
There are daily workshops which include sharing circle, elder’s mental health, elder care, traditional medicines as well as cultural stations with things like ribbon skirt making, smoking fish, hide tanning and skiff building.
The Gathering wraps up on Thursday with a fiddle festival, jigging competition and square dancing showcase.
