There is a bit of Saskatchewan content and/or affiliation among 20 coaches named by Hockey Canada to a pair of national age group programs for 2022.
All 20 coaches named to, either Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team for the 2022 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup or Canada’s National Under-17 Program for the World Under-17 Challenge are from Canadian Hockey League teams, including seven from the W-H-L. The Saskatchewan group includes Prince Albert product Kelly Guard who will be the Under-18 goaltending coach…a post he holds with his home-town Raiders. With the Under-17 teams, Moose Jaw Warriors’ head coach Mark O’Leary will be bench boss with one of three Canadian squads. Swift Current Broncos’ bench boss Devan Praught will be an assistant coach while Neilburg product and Regina Pats’ video co-ordinator Landon Watson will be in a similar role. The Under-18 team gathers in Calgary for a selection camp starting July 20th with the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup to be held in Red Deer beginning July 31st. The Under-17 program will have a development camp in Calgary opening on July 10th with the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge to be held in Langley and Delta, B-C starting on November 5th.
