A rain fall warning is in place for western Alberta including Calgary and Banff where residents can expect 75 to 125 millimetres, or 3 to 5 inches of rain, by Wednesday.
Environment Canada also warns that locally 150 millimetres of rain is possible and to watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
Meanwhile there is a combination of rainfall warnings and snowfall warnings for eastern British Columbia, starting as rain around the Okanagan Valley. As the system goes east the rainfall amounts increase and once it hits the Kootenays, it’s expected to turn to snow.
In Saskatchewan rain is expected as well which could continue to help slow the spread of the Mccafe fire southwest of Stanley Mission that is now estimated at more than 28,000 acres in size.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says smoke may be heavy at times but will be short-lived. The fire is less than 20 kilometres from Stanley Mission which underwent a general evacuation Friday morning with residents taking up temporary homes in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Regina. That general evacuation order is now lifted and residents are expected to start heading home this morning.
