There are now 112 cases of monkeypox across Canada. Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, says 98 are in Quebec, 4 in Alberta and 9 in Ontario. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization is recommending a single dose of a health Canada approved vaccine for the virus for those with a high risk of exposure of a probable or confirmed case of monkeypox or in a setting where transmission is happening.
Officials continue to monitor for new cases, and Dr. Tam expects more will emerge. The National Microbiology Lab is conducting sequencing of the virus causing Canadian cases, and early results are that they are related to the international outbreak. (CJGX)
