Currently there are 4 active wildfires in the province and crews have managed to get three of them under control. The Ditch fire between Preeceville and Canora is now classified as “contained”. The McCafe fire near Stanley Mission is not.
The fire near Stanley Mission involves firefighters on the ground as well as heavy equipment, helicopter support and air tanker support. Critical infrastructure in the area includes the Rapid River Dam. Work continues to secure the north flank of the fire, and fire guard construction is ongoing. That fire is now almost 3,900 hectares in size.
There have been 117 fires so far this year. The five year average is 124.
A special air quality statement remains in effect, due to wildfire smoke, for: Candle Lake and Narrow Hills Provincial Parks; Hwy 165 between hwys 2 and 914 including Pinehouse Lake; Lac la Ronge Provincial Park including La Ronge; Montreal Lake and Molanosa and Prince Albert National Park.
