With more people using the trails, the Meewasin Valley Authority is undergoing some enhancements in the trail area around Nutrien Wonderhub, the Prairie Lily and the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site.

CEO of the Meewasin Valley Authority, Andrea Lafond, says there has been a significant rise in trail usage, with 1.87-million visits in 2020, 2.24-million in 2021and pre-pandemic, 1.69-million in 2019. Lafond adds that Meewasin conducted a Trail Study in 2014, which identified trail utilization would double by 2050, so the need is there to expand and create more accessibility.

The work includes enhancements to the trail, news stairs and ramps down to the dock and a secondary trail along the riving heading north from the dock. Closures and detours will be necessary, which will change throughout the construction season.

Lafond advises to check Meewasin’s Facebook page for the latest closure information. Next year there will be trail work from the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site to River Landing.
