A bill that would have provided ten days of paid sick leave for employees was shot down by Sask Party MLAs.
Members of the Legislature voted 39 to10 against the bill.
Lori Johb, the president of the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, says people are left with no choice but to work sick.
“People were expected to stay home when they get sick but they weren’t expected to get paid for that. Of course people are making the decision – because they can’t afford not to – they’re going to work ill.”
Johb added that the news is disappointing but not surprising and she says there is zero support from the government for working people in the province.
