SASKATOON (MAY 6, 2022) — May is officially KidSport month in Saskatchewan. At the official kickoff, three classrooms of students from St. Frances Cree Bilingual School were taught fun soccer skills by members of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and several KidSport ambassadors.

Government of Saskatchewan Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport, Laura Ross, proclaimed May as KidSport Month in Saskatchewan.

“Participation in sport and recreation plays such an important role in the health and well-being of our children and youth,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. “By participating in sport at a young age, it teaches life skills that help children in all aspects of life and has positive effects on both their mental and physical development. Thank you to KidSport for allowing children in our province to participate by assisting with financial barriers.”

During KidSport Month, 42 local KidSport chapters will host fundraising activities, including KidSport Regina and KidSport Saskatoon Corporate Challenges, where organizations and businesses will participate in a fun and friendly team building fundraiser. KidSport is also asking organizations across Canada to encourage their employees to donate $2 and wear their favourite team’s colours on National Jersey Day for KidSport.

Without your contributions, KidSport cannot fulfil our mission of giving kids the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of sport,” said Jerry Shoemaker, Provincial KidSport Committee Chair. “Proceeds from fundraising events such as the KidSport Corporate Challenge support children and youth from families facing financial obstacles allowing them to participate in sport.”
