The cause of a small fire at a Saskatoon motel has been determined. Fire investigators say insufficient cleaning and removal of lint inside the industrial dryer is what caused $15 thousand dollars in damage at the Venture Inn on Idylwyld Drive Wednesday afternoon.
A news release from the fire department says a fire inspector recently visited the site and found the ductwork serving the dryer needed to be cleaned. It was then reported to the fire investigator that a cleaning took place, although remnants of lint were found.
No injuries occurred as a result of the blaze. The fire department reminds residents that lint traps built into dryers are required to be cleaned out after every use. Lint build up can cause heat not to escape the drum or ductwork, posing a risk of fire.
