SaskPower is warning customers about an email scam. The email says there is an issue processing the customer’s SaskPower bill and are told to log in to MySaskPower to submit a payment, but the Crown Corporation says the link to log in, takes you to a fake page. Then, customers are prompted to enter their credit card information. As well, the email comes from an address not associated with SaskPower.
Anyone who has followed this link and submitted their credit card information should contact their credit card issuer immediately, and then call Sask Power Customer Service immediately to have their MySaskPower credentials reset.
SaskPower offers the following tips to protect against email scams:
Always check the “from” email address when you receive an email claiming to be from SaskPower and ensure it is actually from SaskPower
Always check the links in emails claiming to be from SaskPower and ensure they are pointing to a legitimate SaskPower website
Routinely change your password and never reuse a password from a different site
When in doubt, call SaskPower customer service to confirm the email was legitimate
