Six athletes, three coaches, four support and mission staff plus two officials comprise Saskatchewan’s 15-person contingent taking part in the Beijing Olympic Winter Games.
Many of the 15 are veterans of previous Winter Olympiads, led by Saskatoon product Catriona LeMay Doan. A former speed skating medallist, Lemay Doan is going to her 11th Olympics, this time as a Team Canada Chef de Mission. As for the athletes, bobsleigh brakeman Ben Coakwell of Moose Jaw, speed skater Marsha Hudey of White City and snowboarder Mark McMorris of Regina will each be attending their third consecutive Olympics, while women’s hockey player Emily Clark of Saskatoon will be competing in her second Games. Men’s hockey player Adam Cracknell of Prince Albert and speed skater Graeme Fish of Moose Jaw will make their Olympic debuts. Among the coaches are Humboldt’s Lyndon Rush with bobsleigh and Todd McClements of Saskatoon with long track speed skating. Saskatoon’s Cianna Lieffers will be officiating women’s hockey games. Chris Dornan of Saskatoon is a media attache for the bobsleigh and skeleton teams while Mark Jesney of Saskatoon is a physiotherapist with the long track speed skating team.
