The New York Islanders announced Friday night that Saskatchewan hockey legend Clark Gillies has passed away at the age of 67. Gillies, who was born in Moose Jaw played for the Regina Pats from 1971 to 1974. He won the Memorial Cup with the team in his final season of junior hockey. The Moose Jaw native then went on to play 14 seasons in the NHL with the New York Islanders and the Buffalo Sabres after being selected fourth overall by the Islanders in the 1974 NHL Entry Draft. During his NHL career, Gillies tallied 697 points which included 319 goals. Gillies won Stanley Cups with the Islanders from 1980 to 1983. The former Pat was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. His number 9 was retired by both the Islanders and the Regina Pats.
