SGI says the vast majority of drivers who were stopped at a check stop in December chose to not drive impaired in December, with 361 impaired driving offences following a month of active enforcement. Spokesperson Tyler McMurchy says there were more checkstops this past December than police have ever had before on Saskatchewan roads.
December’s Traffic Safety Spotlight also included 418 distracted driving tickets, of which 346 were for cell phone use, 2,975 aggressive driving and speeding tickets, and 177 tickets for seatbelts and child restraints being incorrectly used or not at all.
SGI thanks all the community leaders, including musicians and civic leaders who were featured, sharing their own personal reasons for vowing never to drive impaired. The January Traffic Safety Spotlight is intersection safety.
