Saskatchewan’s Premier says we should be concerned about Omicron, but not panicked. Scott Moe took to Twitter today (Thurs) to explain why this province hasn’t followed suit with the rest of Canada, bringing in extra safety measures around COVID-19 and the rising cases of the Omicron variant.

He says the government is tracking the situation very closely and hasn’t ruled out measures around large gathering sizes, which could potentially be introduced next week. However, even though the numbers are rising quickly, hospitalizations in Saskatchewan continue to drop. Moe suggests if serious cases remain low and manageable, he doesn’t want the province to have to go back to shutting down activities, businesses and taking away personal freedoms.

Instead, his advice to protect yourself and those around you is to get your shots, including your booster shot, and pick up some rapid antigen tests and use them from time to time, to ensure you don’t have COVID and aren’t spreading it. It’s possible to have COVID and not even know it, particularly if you have had your vaccinations. So, Moe says, if you are going to be around a group of people, in particular anyone elderly or immunocompromised, give yourself a test.
