Saskatoon will be home to more than just one major curling event next week.
A couple of days after the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials start Saturday at SaskTel Centre, the Canadian World Junior Qualifier begins Monday, November 22 and runs through Saturday the 27th at the Granite Curling Club. Teams from across the country are taking part, including Madison Kleiter’s junior women’s foursome and Daymond Bernath’s junior men’s quartet, both from Saskatoon’s Sutherland club. The two winners at the end of the event on the 27th advance to the World Junior Championships next March in Sweden. Of course, Canada’s women’s and men’s representatives to the Beijing Winter Olympics will be decided on Sunday, November 28. Following is the news release from Curling Canada…..
Canada’s Future Olympians Take To The Ice In Saskatoon!
There are TWO major curling events happening in Saskatoon this month. The 2021 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials will be held November 20 to 28 at SaskTel Centre.
Also, the 2021 New Holland World Junior Qualifier is on at the Granite Curling Club November 22 to 27. Teams from across the country will be competing to represent Canada at the World Junior Curling Championships in Jönköping, Sweden in March 2022.
Team Kleiter of Saskatoon will represent Saskatchewan for the women’s junior championship. The team is comprised of skip Madison Kleiter, third Kya Kennedy, second Kelcee Kennedy, lead Mary Engel and coaches Dean Kleiter and Brad Kennedy.
For the men, Team Saskatchewan features skip Daymond Bernath, third
Bryden Tessier, second David Baum, lead Jack Reid and coach Darren Camm.
Both teams curl out of the Sutherland Curling Club.
