An early Sunday morning incident in Regina between a cab driver and a potential passenger led to the arrest of the passenger for a weapons offence.
At about 4:05 a.m. on October 31, officers were called to an address in the 800 block of Winnipeg Street for a report of a weapons offence, possibly involving a knife.
The preliminary investigation by police found that 31-year-old Jason Dustin Hotomanie got into a cab at that location.
The driver asked the man to leave after a brief verbal exchange, after which the potential passenger moved as if to strike the driver, at which time the driver contacted police, fearing the man had a weapon in his hands. The suspect fled, but was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Further investigation found Hotomanie had a warrant out of Saskatoon and was also a suspect in an unrelated file.
Police also allege he had a large knife concealed on his person. Hotomanie made his first appearance in Provincial Court Monday, charged with breach of undertaking, carry a concealed weapon and breach of release order.
