The Saskatoon Tribal Council is requiring anyone attending the Every Child Matters concert on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to show their full vaccination status.
Tribal Chief Mark Arcand says they’re working with the health authority to have a rapid test device on site for the event. Those who aren’t vaccinated will then be required to take a COVID test. As of Thursday, there were two thousand tickets sold with the STC setting aside space for five thousand guests.
Arcand says they encourage everyone to sit in their assigned seat, although if they feel move comfortable spreading out, those in attendance can do so. The event is for everyone and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster. “I just want to encourage the general public to come out on September 30th and be part of a great day and a fantastic day.” says Arcand.
Masking will also be required for those in attendance.
With Saskatchewan not recognizing the 30th as a holiday, Arcand hopes the province will follow in the footsteps of the federal government and recognize it in the future.
The Tribal Chief adds Saskatoon is leading the way when it comes to reconciliation with schools closing and local businesses shutting their doors on the 30th in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Gord Bamford, George Canyon and Charlie Major are all performing Thursday. Doors open at 6p.m. at SaskTel Centre.
