Add the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners and the Saskatoon Police Service Administration joining the list of services and businesses who will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th as a statutory holiday, and every year moving forward.
“The Board agrees that publicly commemorating the history and legacy of the residential schools is an important component of the reconciliation process,” says Jo Custead, Chair of the Saskatoon Board of Police Commissioners. “Taking the day to reflect on the impact of the residential schools is one way we can honour Survivors, their families, and communities so that the history and legacy of residential schools is not forgotten.”
The Federal Government introduced the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday for employees of federally-regulated business and services in order to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools.
