The NDP opposition says, data from Statistics Canada reveals that under Premier Scott Moe, Saskatchewan has experienced the worst jobs record in the country since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
NDP Leader Ryan Meili says, “Scott Moe has given Saskatchewan families the worst of both worlds: Rising COVID case numbers, the lowest vaccination rate amongst the provinces, and the worst jobs performance in the country.” The NDP says, compared to February 2020, the last full month before the pandemic, total employment has decreased by 20,400 jobs or 3.6%, the largest percentage decrease of all the provinces. The unemployment rate is 7.0%, increasing from 6.7% month-over-month. This is the second consecutive month that the unemployment rate has increased. And, full-time employment decreased by 500 jobs month-over-month and by 4,000 jobs year-over-year. Saskatchewan is the only province that lost full-time jobs year-over-year.
