Kelvin Gregory Maure, a 26 year old man from Parkland County, Alberta is facing 34 criminal charges which includes multiple weapons charges as well as Making or Possessing an Explosive Substance and Personation of a Peace Officer.
Maure was the subject of a larger ongoing investigation since September 2020 which included a number of his associates. The RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team says his online activities combined with actions he allegedly took, resulted in his arrest. And after he was arrested, the RCMP executed several search warrants seizing numerous firearms.
Inspector Scott Isaac, Officer-in-Charge of K Division INSET says, “The accused was interacting online with like-minded individuals in posting extreme views, that ultimately escalated towards him engaging in criminal activity that posed a considerable risk to public and police safety, ultimately resulting in his arrest. As the investigation continues, we are attempting to determine whether the accused s actions were motivated by a specific ideology or if there were broader intentions to his activities.
The RCMP say an ever-increasing challenge law enforcement faces is the internet and social media being used to inspire, radicalize or espouse extremist messaging or calls for violence.
