A new art installation will look to give strength back to Saskatoon’s downtown core, as 3000 paper dandelions will be popping up in the front windows of vacant store fronts
Sarah Marchildon, Program Director with Downtown Saskatoon’s Business Improvement District says artist Monique Martin’s vision behind using the dandelion is strength. She hopes people might be spurred on by looking through windows downtown, at the dandelions, and might be able to visualize vacant stores as being the perfect space for their own business ideas. Marchildon add Martin’s pieces are very detailed and she’s proud to have the traveling exhibition locally in Saskatoon.
With dandelions representative of spring, and the weather currently warming up, Marchildon says it is a fitting time for people to be back downtown, in a COVID-safe way. Marchildon explains there is a map available on the Downtown Saskatoon website so people can find the dandelions. She adds there will even be a drive-thru portion at the old bus depot.
The art installation named “Context is Everything” will be ongoing until April 15th and Marchildon says it is another invitation to wander the downtown district again.
