One of the spokespeople for a national healing event says not everyone who wanted to was able to speak at the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls Inquiry, but a new, group art project in Western Canada, Ontario and Quebec may help with that on a smaller scale.
It’s called pima’tisowein e’ mimtotaman which translates to we dance for life.
Margaret Bird’s mom, Happy Charles, has been missing since April of 2017 is looking forward to creating art as a group and taking part in traditional ceremonies in an effort to heal.
Depending on the public health regulations around COVID-19, there will be art-based healing through gatherings on the land and in ceremony.
She expects there will be on in Saskatchewan in May.
Bird likes the idea of healing through art, saying her mom passed on her love of art to her and her sisters through singing, painting and beading.
Once the gatherings are done, the commemorative art will tour the country.
