After Black Friday and Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday and NCC is hoping you will consider helping out one of the most threatened ecosystems on the planet if you plan on making a donation on Tuesday.
Through Nature Conservancy Canada, almost 500,000 acres of natural grassland has been preserved in Saskatchewan.
Spokesperson Cameron Wood says grasslands are even more at risk than the Amazon rain forest or the coral reefs.
He believes many people have become more appreciative of nature since the pandemic began.
Wood notes that NCC has seen a lot more interest in people wanting to access their land and learning about what the conservation organization does.
Any donation you make today would have a double impact, because donations up to $232,500 will be matched thanks to local philanthropists, Heather Ryan and L. David Dube, along with other contributors including TELUS and CP Rail.
Wood adds that the pandemic also brings to the forefront the role of nature in preventing these viral events.
He explains that the more pressure we put on nature, the more likely we are to see these viral transmissions because there is a direct correlation between how much nature is lost and the potential for these viruses that exist in natural ecosystems to come into contact with people
