An injured dog, located outside of the city limits of Saskatoon, has been rescued by a group of people who banded together to help.
Patti Wilkinson, a volunteer with the Wildlife Rescue Society of Saskatchewan, says their hotline got a call from the Dakota Dunes Resort’s director of maintenance Don Redbear. Redbear reported seeing a dog nearby for a few weeks that appeared to be deteriorating and had sustained an injury, he was trying to find a way to help.
Wilkinson said they didn’t have a trap big enough, but went to Facebook for help and got an offer of a large live trap to borrow. She says the Dakota Dunes staff unloaded the heavy trap, monitored it all night, and eventually the dog was trapped and brought inside, so they could keep her warm and feed her scraps. Wilkinson explains the dog, now named “Daisy”, was brought to Corman Park Veterinary for a bad injury to her foot.
Although Wilkinson is concerned for the pup’s leg, she says Daisy will soon spend some time with a WRSOS member, until a home can be found for the German Shepard-Mix.
Wilkinson praised the staff at Dakota Dunes, who she says dealt with Daisy with an incredible amount of compassion and care.
She says while the Wildlife Rescue doesn’t generally deal with dogs, they always will help an animal in distress.
Wilkinson explains if someone sees an animal, in distress and needing help, to call their hotline which is monitored 24/7, 365 days a year, province wide. The hotline number is 306-242-7177 or visit http://wrsos.org/
