Snowfall varied across the province overnight on Sunday, and Terri Lang from Environment Canada says while it’s tough to get an accurate snowfall measurement from automatic weather systems, due to high winds, volunteers are reporting in from across the province.
Lang says volunteer observers saw about 8 centimeters on Saturday in and around Saskatoon. On Sunday and overnight into Monday there was another 28 centimetres, from observers just outside of the city, making the weekend total approximately 36 centimetres in Saskatoon. Across the province Lang says some of the highest amounts were seen in Kindersley with 47.4 centimetres, adding that area saw a lot of blowing snow, with blizzard conditions most of Sunday. She estimates 40 to 50 centimetres in the Swift Current – Maple Creek area. Lang says further north didn’t get as much snow and around Regina the estimate is around 20 centimetres.
Lang suggests a weaker system of 2 to 5 centimetres of snow is due up on Wednesday. The next couple of days will be on the cold side with higher wind chills. Lang says this will move to a gradual warming towards the end of the week but she doesn’t think any of the snow is going anywhere fast.
