The leader of the Green Party in Saskatchewan says introducing CERB during COVID-19showed the entire country that the social safety net program is a leaky boat. Naomi Hunter says at $2,000 per month, it would be comparable to the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit that was initiated at the beginning of the pandemic and it shows there is a need for a guaranteed liveable income.

The Green Party unveiled its platform recently. The Saskatchewan Green Party, says they believe the legislature should move to enact measures to transition the province’s economy to clean energy. She feels it will provide economic growth and jobs especially with small business start-ups.

Hunter says the Greens also want to ensure the province has access to universal medicare – as it was originally intended – in addition to universal dental care, and they want mental health and addictions care rolled under the health plan and expanded.

As well, they want alternative medical services like massage and chiropractics to become part of standard medical services in addition to introducing universal pharmacare.
