Battlefords RCMP have been receiving complaints about a phone scam where the caller identifies themselves as a representative from either the Canada Revenue Agency or Service Canada.

The fraudster says their Social Insurance Number has been compromised so the victim is told to to withdraw all their money and someone will call back with a safe location so it can be deposited securely.

The number that shows up on call display when they call back is the Battlefords RCMP number.

Police say anyone receiving calls similar to this should hang up immediately and don’t give out any personal information.

The suggestion is to be highly suspicious of any unsolicited calls asking for personal information or money.
