All those bottles and cans that you’ve accumulated and are cluttering up your storage area can be disposed of, starting Thursday night, while helping out the Saskatoon Hilltops and their chosen charities.
The Canadian Bowl champions are holding a good ol’ fashioned bottle drive…with the twist of it being contactless due to the novel coronavirus. Money raised will go to help out the dormant team’s bottom line, as well as go to the Saskatoon Food Bank and the Friendship Inn. Following is a letter/news release from the Hilltops…..
From Janice Kozun, Director of Community Outreach:
Parents and Hilltop Supporters,
First and foremost, we hope that everyone is well. As we navigate this unprecedented time and these circumstances that we all are faced with, we need to look after each other. Stay safe.
Secondly, it is a given that we are all missing normal. For us as a football community, that would normally mean spring camp and start up. That isn’t to be – and is yet to be determined – but the Directors still gather (via Zoom) to plan for and respond to what we are managing. Operations is always on our agenda, as is community outreach. So, to offer a service (while SARCAN remains closed), to give back to the community (a portion of the funds raised will be donated to the Saskatoon Food Bank and the Friendship Inn), and to be creative in how we manage our finances, the Club has decided to hold a contactless Hilltops Bottle Drive. In consultation with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, we are allowed to hold a bottle drive given adherence to specific guidelines. Of course, everyone is reminded to wear personal protective equipment (masks and gloves), and to adhere to social distancing guidelines (two meters).
The details are as follows. . .
Thursday, May 28 Hilltops Clubhouse (Kilburn Ave) 7:00 – 8:30 pm
Bagged cans and bottles may be dropped off at the clubhouse, parking lot adjacent to the patio. Directors will be there to accept the bagged recyclables from donors, and to store the donations. The building remains closed.
Friday, May 29 OK Tire (610 Circle Drive E) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (business hours)
Bagged cans and bottles may be dropped off at OK Tire, Door #8. Rod Janzen will be there to accept the bagged recyclables from donors, and to store the donations.
Saturday, May 30 ABC Canada (1802 Quebec Ave) 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Masks and gloves are available for the bottle drive participants, starting at 8:30 am. Please enter the ABC Canada parking lot on the east side of the building using the 40th St and 1st Ave access.
Donors can also make arrangements for players to pick up their bagged cans and bottles from a curbside location, as provided. This will be handled via our Facebook page, and via our collective networking.
As donations are gathered, club members will drop off the bagged recyclables at ABC (40th St and 1st Ave access) where Directors will manage the collection and storage.
ALL donations will be sorted following a one-week ‘hold’ on donated items, as per SHA guidelines, and arrangements will be made with SARCAN for delivery at an appropriate time.
We thank everyone for your contribution, big or small, and for minding the guidelines as we come together.
Hilltops Directors
