Mayor Charlie Clark is asking residents to make some noise and cheer for heroes Saturday evening.  Residents are invited to join in and celebrate essential workers.

Over the last several weeks, different blocks and streets have been getting out onto their door steps at 7pm, which is around the shift change for healthcare workers across the city.  Mayor Clark says, what they want to do is bring the whole community together, getting as many streets, neighbours and people out as possible, all at once.  In an effort to make some noise and show support and gratitude to all people on the front lines during the pandemic, in a safe way that still practices social distancing.

Mayor Clark says it was an important time to do this, as it is National Emergency Preparedness Week, and it’s a chance to make so much noise that essential workers hear residents support.

Clark adds he’s had the chance to see some celebrations already including on Quance Avenue, he explains people were on their door steps all the way up and down the street, making noise, banging on pots and pans, and says you can really notice the celebration.  Mayor Clark adds it’s lots of fun, a chance to see your neighbours and is a real reminder of what people are doing on the front lines rights now.

The Cheer for Heroes will start this Saturday evening (May 9th) at 7 p.m.
