The median wait time for medically necessary treatment in Saskatchewan has nearly doubled in one year, climbing from about 15 weeks in 2018 to 26 weeks this year. But, even with that dramatic increase, there are provinces in far worse condition. Alberta is 28 weeks, Manitoba 32 weeks, Nova Scotia 33, New Brunswick 40, and Prince Edward Island at 49 weeks. The national average is a wait of about 21 weeks. The survey is done by the Fraser Institute, an independent public policy think-tank. The Institute says the national average is the second longest wait ever recorded since the lengths first start being measured in 1993. At that time, the national average was only about nine weeks. This year, Ontario has the shortest wait time at 16 weeks.
