See you in December!
With apologies to “The Happenings” for changing up the month on their 60’s hit song, but that’s what the Saskatoon Blades did Sunday, saying good-bye to their fans for three weeks after blanking the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 4-0.
Rookie goaltender Koen MacInnes (pictured) stopped all 20 shots he faced for his first W-H-L shutout. He almost had to be perfect as Moose Jaw netminder Adam Evanoff bordered on spectacular with his play as the Bridge City Bunch peppered him with a season-high 49 shots.
“It’s surreal,” said the 17-year-old MacInnes of his first major junior clean sheet. “There’s no real words to describe it. To do it on national T-V (the game was shown across Canada on Sportsnet)…with all my friends watching, too, back home…that’s something I’ll never forget for as long as I live.”
Zach Huber opened and closed the scoring, his second tally into an empty net, in front of 2,763 fans at SaskTel Centre. Tristen Robins and Riley McKay added the other goals as the Blades improved their record to 12-8-2 as they head off on the road for seven consecutive games…the first five of which are against each of the teams in the U.S. Division. The first test is Wednesday in Spokane against the Chiefs. Following is the official game summary from the W-H-L…
