Prince Albert City Police are a month away from rolling out the new Community Policing Unit.
Constables Derek Simonson and Ron Meyers will fan out across the city on foot and bicycle to interact with residents.
Sergeant of Community Services Travis Willie says they will spend a good deal of time downtown and in other high-traffic areas such as the Rotary Trail in addition to the Cornerstone and South Hill shopping districts.
Willie calls it a positive, proactive and interactive approach to policing as Constables Simonson and Meyers will be able to act as problem-solvers when necessary.
He points out this is their full-time job as the two constables will not be sent out on emergency calls.
Willie hopes residents will find the face-to-face access less intimidating than encountering a police car with the windows rolled up.
The unit hits the streets in mid-September and will work out of a new sub-station downtown on 10th Street East once renovations are completed in late fall.
