It’s a flashback to early twentieth century urban rail transit in Saskatoon.
Streetcar number 51 which rolled through the streets of the city from 1927 to 1951 has gotten a major facelift.
The tram which already has new paint, seats, roof, window, trolly poles and wheel assemblies, now has new accordion doors.
A major donation from the Saskatchewan Railway Museum with help from private and corporation backers paid for the paint, fabrication and installation of the folding doors.
It also took over 125 hours of volunteer labour from members of the Saskatchewan Railroad Historical Association to get them ready.
The tram is one of the focal points of the rail transit display at the museum on the Pike Lake Highway.
It’s open Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s as well as holiday Monday’s until the Labour Day weekend.
The vehicle was found on a Biggar-area farm in 1994 and donated to the museum.
