The Government of Saskatchewan will be seeking intervenor status in Alberta’s reference case against the federal carbon tax. The United Conservative government announced today (Thursday) that it is asking the courts to look into the constitutionality of the federal government imposing the tax. Premier Scott Moe calls the tax harmful and ineffective and he is pleased to see the Alberta government file its reference case.
In early May, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal ruled 3 – 2 that the federal government’s carbon tax on provinces that didn’t have sufficient plans of their own was constitutional and then on May 31st, the province officially launched its appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
