There is a settlement in a civil lawsuit stemming from the alleged theft of about 2.5 million dollars from the Whitecap Dakota First Nation.
The First Nation launched the suit against the Royal Bank and auditing firm KPMG after a former employee was sentenced to five years in prison.
They alleged RBC and KPMG should have noticed the crime earlier as their former accountant cashed fraudulent cheques at the bank.
Before sentencing court was told Hugo Gallegos wrote close to 18-hundred cheques to himself over a two to three year period during his six year tenure as a senior accountant with the First Nation.
He pleaded guilty to two counts each of theft and fraud over 5-thousand dollars.
An official with the Whitecap Dakota First Nation says terms of the settlement are confidential.
The civil suit was launched in 2015.
