A comprehensive overhaul of the childcare system to make it more affordable, and dealing with climate change through a guaranteed feed-in tariff for producers of alternative power. Both of these are part of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party’s election platform.
The Liberal Party explains the feed-in tariff would give smaller energy producers the ability to finance significant installations by being able to sell their surplus energy to SaskPower. The Liberals also approve of carbon pricing as a way to transition to a low carbon-economy, but would prefer a Saskatchewan plan within the provisions of the current federal legislation.
The revenue from carbon pricing along with investments from municipal and Indigenous partners would mean being able to build a pipeline to the Port of Churchill, which would open up new markets for Saskatchewan’s oil, according to the Liberal Platform announcement.
The provincial election is scheduled for October 26th of this year.
