Premier Scott Moe repeated today while at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities convention that there is a balanced budget on the way.
That’s even though the operating fund deficit is rising.
Moe explains the budget is considered balanced because the government reports on a summary financial basis, and that’s at the request of the auditor.
He explains it as similar to a home mortgage, where you may be paying down your mortgage, but your monthly budget balances.
Moe says the government adds to the operating debt, because they continue to build a bigger house to make sure there are services for a growing province.
The budget will be introduced next Wednesday.
The Premier also talked about the canola issues with China, saying the federal government should be doing more to resolve the situation.
The Winnipeg based grain company, Richardson International, had its canola export license suspended by the Chinese government, reportedly for bacteria and pests in Canadian canola exports in the past, but many believe it has more to do with the arrest of a senior Chinese business executive and holding her for possible extradition to the U.S.
Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Feeland says she doesn’t believe there is any scientific basis for the permit cancellation.
