The sophomore Arts and Science student posted two goals and three assists in two games as the Dogs swept a home-and-home series from the Regina Cougars. The former Saskatoon Blade, Prince George and Victoria star…along with the rest of his Saskatchewan teammates…hit the road this weekend for a pair of games in Lethbridge. Putting forth one of his best weekends of the season, second-year Golden Bears goalie Zach Sawchenko led Alberta to a series sweep over UBC in Vancouver.
The former Moose Jaw Warrior allowed just two goals over 129 minutes, as the Golden Bears were able to extend their winning streak to five thanks to a pair of wins over the Thunderbirds.
Sawchenko made 26 saves on 28 shots on Friday night, as the Bears escaped with a thrilling 3-2 double overtime win. Sawchenko then added 17 saves on Saturday, earning his third shutout of the season. The win was also his fourth-straight, a streak dating back to December.
In 15 games this season, the sophomore Bear leads Canada West with a 1.71 goals against average, while sitting second in wins (12) and shutouts (3), and third in save percentage (.916).
The 16-3-1 Golden Bears will look to add to their winning streak this weekend, as they take on 11-5-4 Mount Royal Cougars in a home-and-home series.

In a provincial rivalry weekend, Saskatchewan forward Alex Forsberg played a large role in the Huskies sweep of the Regina Cougars. The former Western Hockey League 30-goal scorer finished with two goals and three assists in the home-and-home set.
Friday night in Regina, Forsberg scored early in the second period to make the score 3-0 and then tallied again halfway through the third to put the game out of reach at 6-1. Back at home on Saturday, the Arts & Science major was key in another Huskies victory, recording a pair of assists and finishing the weekend with eight shots on goal.
The victories kept Saskatchewan atop the Canada West standings as they hold a record of 17-3-0 on the season.
Forsberg and the Huskies are back in action this weekend when they travel to Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.

Former Swift Current Bronco Coda Gordon helped the Calgary Dinos to a convincing sweep of the Lethbridge Pronghorns over the weekend, as the Dinos outscored the ‘Horns 7-0 in a home-and-home series.
On Thursday night in Lethbridge, Gordon assisted on what proved to be the game-winner 13;26 into the third period, as Calgary earned a win in front of more than 1,600 fans at the Enmax Centre – home of this year’s University Cup.
The following night in Calgary, Gordon assisted on the Dinos’ second goal of the game, before adding an insurance marker early in the third period.
With the wins, Calgary improved to 13-6-1 on the season. They’re back in action this weekend when they travel to Vancouver to take on UBC.
