RCMP in southern Saskatchewan say an SUV pulling onto the Trans-Canada Highway near Pense, coming off of a grid road, was hit by a westbound semi tractor trailer unit.
White Butte RCMP say the call came in at 4:15 pm on Boxing Day. The driver of the SUV, a woman, was also the lone occupant and she was flown to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance. The driver of the semi was not hurt.
Traffic was restricted for about 90 minutes and eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were shut down completely for a short time to allow the STARS helicopter to land. At this point of the investigation, RCMP say they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
