The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, the North Saskatoon Business Association and the Regina and Saskatoon Chambers of Commerce all agree to disagree the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
That’s because the national Chamber has officially stated that businesses of all sizes are prepared to accept carbon pricing as part of doing business.
CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber, Steve McLellan says the provincial organization supports an orderly transition to a low-carbon economy, but not a carbon tax.
Executive Director of the NSBA, Keith Moen, says the tax doesn’t mean carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced, so it won’t be effective.
He adds a tax would unfairly impact western economies that don’t have nuclear power or extensive hydroelectric capabilities.
