A representative from Lyft, one of the ride-sharing companies interested in bringing their services to Saskatoon has requested to speak at today’s (mon) City Council meeting. Saskatoon City Council will be considering a new bylaw that could allow companies such as Lyft and Uber to operate in Saskatoon.
In the report heading to council, the minimum cost of a ride-sharing trip would be $3.75, that’s the same as the current minimum taxi fare in Saskatoon. For the cost of a business licence for ride-sharing companies to operate in Saskatoon, the cost is $2,500 for one to 10 vehicles while the cost increases to $12,500 for 11 to 50 vehicles and $25,000 for 51 or more vehicles.
If council passes the bylaw, it’s unclear when ride-sharing companies will set-up shop in Saskatoon.
Today’s meeting begin at 1 p.m. at City Hall.
